This week's 78rpm disc features a set of reels from Jerry and May Picking's Orchestra -- or rather a solo offering from the group's flute player with piano and drums accompanying. According to a January 7, 1950 edition of the Irish American Advocate, the orchestra operated out of Hartford, Connecticut and were led by accordionist Jerry Picking along with his pianist wife, May. Other members of the orchestra included Tommy Grem on banjo, Dan Carney on fiddle, and Patsy Devine on flute, tin whistle, and fiddle. So Devine might be the featured soloist here.
This disc was released on the Irish Records label (I3014), likely in the 1950s. From the Ted McGraw Collection, McGraw 78 01-476.
