Michael Coleman and Michael Andrews: Bonnie Kate/Jenny's Chickens

We close out a new week of the playlist with the other side to Decca 12015, Michael Coleman and Michael Andrews' recording of Bonnie Kate and Jenny's Chickens. Coleman of course is in top form, and Andrews' guitar work is supportive and driving. His chord choices on the A part of Bonnie Kate are quite lovely, and the accompaniment on Jenny's Chickens is a great example of how minimal chord choices can still effectively support a tune. Basically using only two chords for the entirety of Jenny's Chickens, note Andrews' rhythmic support of the melody on the third part.

Recorded in 1934 and released on the Decca label (12015).

From the Ted McGraw Collection, object number McGraw 78 01-139.
