William Quinn - 1930s Irish American Accordion Player

These two tracks are from a 78 rpm disc issued on the Montgomery Ward Label under the "Irish Barn Dance Band" name. We have a handful of discs with this band name, which are mostly renamed recordings of Paddy Killoran's larger ensembles.

Spotswood lists the solo accordion player on this disc as one William Quinn, perhaps better know for releases under the group name William Quinn and His Dublin Orchestra. His "Exhibition" hornpipe is better known today as "The Rights of Man," and he offers a unique take on "The Swallow's Tail" reel.

These were recorded in New York in November of 1932.

From the David Giovannoni Collection.
