Mattie Toohy's Irish Minstrels: Ben Lourie/The Kenmare Fancy (flings)

This week's disc features a set of flings from Boston-based accordion player Mattie Toohy's band. If we have the correct Matthew Toohy, he arrived in Boston in the early 1920s and features in a couple of images captured in a family history blog about a Keohane family living in Belmont, MA in the 20s (familyhistorybymaryellen.blogspot.com/2021/0…t.html).

There was a band playing for Irish dances called Toohy's Irish Rangers by the early 1930s, and by 1939 Matty Toohy's Irish Minstrels were playing for the Big Irish Dance on St. Patrick's Night at Deacon Hall.

Recorded on the Copley label (9-208). From the Ted McGraw Collection, McGraw 78 00-796.
